Catarina, I think cyber warfare presents a very real threat and that it does make the US vulnerable. Once again, our country should look to Israel and other countries to learn how to protect ourselves. Sometimes, it takes too long for our leaders to take action.

Your comment "Governments and private sector companies need to cooperate better on sharing information about possible threats." is so important. According to an article posted on Reuters last week, "At least a half-dozen major U.S. companies whose computers have been infiltrated by cyber criminals or international spies have not admitted to the incidents despite new guidance from securities regulators urging such disclosures." The statistics on this are frightening.
My recent post <a href="http://keepupwiththeweb.com/thanks-to-seo-a-newspaper-reporter-in-pennsylvania-found-my-blog/" rel="nofollow">Thanks to SEO a Newspaper Reporter in Pennsylvania Found my Blog</a>

There's no question in my mind that there is already a low-level cyber-war going on. I suspect that few governments are not already involved, and also suspect that much of the activity is still being done by independents that may, later, approach governments to sell the results...

I agree that it is a more likely/real threat than nuclear war: no country could afford to launch a nuclear attack today, due to the level of global response to this emotive action. Cyber warfare is more like guerilla warfare - low profile, tightly targeted and more easily deniable...

Will it escalate into a full-scale war? Unlikely - I think it will continue to operate in the shadows, but that makes it no less dangerous.

Sorry for the late reply. No I do not believe leaders need to know everything. It's a collaberative effort relying on the expertise of others within the organizational structure. There is no "I" in team! Effective leaders check their egos at the door and openly communicate with their teams and employees at all levels. Solutions can come from anywhere within the organization and knowing how to use these resources effectively can bring significant results.

Also read news online, Jamella. Glad you agree with me that paywalls i.e. reading 20 articles for free, isn't the way forward. It may work to some extent for top publications like the NYT, but not for local papers. As you say there are other sources online. For instance instead of reading more than 20 articles on NYT we can read on Reuters that's for free.

Hi Catarina,

I haven't bought a newspaper in years and had gotten used to reading my local paper online. Recently, the paper started charging for online subscriptions. The paper allows you to view 20 pages for free every 30 days and then you have to pay. I have not paid, and don't think I'm going to. There are other sources for me to get the news for free. I do miss reading some of the columnists that are in my paper, so at some point, I may pay for an online subscription.
My recent post <a href="http://jamellasblog.com/i-am-a-fanilow-and-proud-of-it/" rel="nofollow">I Am A Fanilow And Proud Of It!</a>

Good points that I agree with Sherryl. Catch is how they can make the kind of profits online that they make from printed ads.
